Moringa oleifera has become a real "superfood" insider tip in recent years - and rightly so. This is because the leaves of the deciduous tree with the swollen trunk are a true powerhouse of nutrients and positive properties for the human body. But although moringa is known as a modern superfood, it is by no means a new discovery. Rather, its origin takes us back thousands of years to the ancient teachings of Ayurveda.

But what exactly is behind this unique plant? What nutrients does it offer and how can you integrate the "miracle tree" into your daily diet? You can find out all this - and much more - in this article. Join us on a journey into the world of the miracle tree and discover the many possibilities it offers us!

What is Moringa oleifera? Origin, History, Distribution

Moringa oleifera is known by many different names – including "horseradish tree", "miracle tree" or "tree of life". It is a medium-sized, fast-growing deciduous tree that originated in Northwest India. Here, people have valued it for centuries for its exceptionally high content of nutrients and its many health benefits. That is why we find it primarily in the ancient teachings of traditional Indian medicine, also known as Ayurveda.

In Ayurveda, almost every part of the plant – from the leaves to the seeds and roots – is associated with positive properties for the human body. But not only that – even the ancient Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians knew and appreciated the moringa tree, which is why we find it in numerous ancient writings and traditions.

Today, the moringa tree has spread to other areas of our globe – we find it in many parts of Asia, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. Thanks to its robust and undemanding nature, it also thrives in nutrient-poor soils, which makes it particularly valuable in many developing countries. This is because it not only has the special property of regenerating the soil and purifying polluted water – at the same time, its nutrient-rich leaves are used as a particularly nutritious food against malnutrition. Therefore, in many regions – such as Africa – it is a strong symbol of resilience, endurance, and renewal.

  • Vitamin E also acts as an antioxidant to help protect our cells from free radicals.

  • Potassium plays an important role in a healthy nervous system, muscle function, and stable blood pressure.

Moringa oleifera in Ayurveda

As you may have already learned, moringa has a firm place in many traditional teachings – especially in Ayurveda. Here, it is highly valued and is said to be able to support the body with numerous ailments. It is particularly associated with the following properties:

  • Anti-inflammatory: Moringa has been used in Ayurveda for many years to relieve inflammation. These properties are mainly due to the antioxidants it contains.

  • Immune system-strengthening: Vitamins C and A contribute to normal immune function, which is why moringa is associated with immune system-strengthening properties.

  • Digestive: In Ayurveda, moringa has been used for centuries to support digestion. These effects can mainly be attributed to its high fiber content. It also contains natural compounds that can promote the production of digestive enzymes.

Moringa oleifera in use: Leaf cut vs. leaf powder

Whether leaf cut or leaf powder – the benefits of Moringa oleifera are countless. But how exactly do you integrate the miracle plant into your daily life?

To help you find your way around the wide world of the miracle tree, we have listed the most common uses of leaf cut and leaf powder for you here.

Moringa oleifera leaf cut

Leaf cut refers to the dried and crushed leaves of Moringa oleifera. Our Tesana leaf cut is particularly finely cut, which allows for easy processing and optimal extraction of valuable ingredients.

Leaf cut is mainly used for:

  • Tea infusion: Whether for external or internal use – Moringa oleifera leaf cut is the perfect choice if you want to make a tea infusion. This is because the slightly larger plant pieces are ideal for releasing the valuable ingredients of Moringa oleifera into the water.

  • Preparation of stews, soups and salads: The finely cut moringa leaf cut enriches your dishes naturally and increases the nutrient content. Simply integrate it into your favorite recipes and enjoy the healthy boost!

Moringa oleifera leaf powder

To produce leaf powder, dried and crushed leaves are ground into fine leaf powder using a grinding machine. This process naturally involves more effort – but the end result is a highly concentrated product that allows for easy processing for you. Due to the additional processing step required for leaf powder, our Tesana leaf powder is also a little more expensive than the leaf cut.

Moringa oleifera leaf powder is mainly used in the following areas:

  • Smoothies and Juices: One of the most proven uses for Moringa oleifera leaf powder is in smoothies or juices. Simply stir the leaf powder into the drink of your choice to give it a nutrient-rich boost.

  • Alcoholic Extract: The fine texture of the leaf powder makes it ideal for producing an alcoholic extract – also known as a plant tincture. Simply infuse the powder in a high-quality oil of your choice and let it steep for several weeks. This way, the valuable ingredients dissolve in the oil, which you can then use for skin care or for internal consumption.

  • Use in Capsules: Probably the most convenient way to integrate Moringa oleifera into your daily diet is by using it in capsules. Due to its fine texture, the powder can be easily filled into capsules, allowing you to use it as a daily food supplement.

Our Moringa oleifera: Natural cultivation in the heart of Africa

All our Moringa oleifera products come from our own cultivation near Lake Victoria in Tanzania & in Cameroon. This is the only way we can ensure that each individual batch is exclusively cultivated and processed according to our high quality standards.

As soon as the leaves have reached their maximum content of valuable ingredients, they are harvested by hand, freed from their stems and dried in the shade. Through this gentle process, we guarantee a consistently high concentration of valuable ingredients – so that you always benefit from all the advantages of Moringa.

High Quality at Fair Prices: How We Promote Small, Sustainable Farms

As you can see in the image below, our high-quality Moringa oleifera leaf cut is grown under controlled conditions at Lake Victoria in Tanzania, Africa, far from any industry. The climate in this region is optimal, characterized by abundant sunny days and ideal temperatures – so natural that hippos and crocodiles bid each other goodnight there. Upon arrival in Germany, despite the ideal growing conditions, all our products undergo regular microbiological examinations by an independent German testing laboratory, which checks the goods for quality, pollutants, and heavy metals – the results are well below the permissible limits.

If Africa sells goods to Europe today, prices are rock bottom. This is partly due to the fact that it is common in conventional trade to pay a small surcharge of 10 or 20% on the local market value. However, when we buy our Moringa from Tanzania, we pay a surcharge of 3000%, i.e., 30 times the local market value. Only in this way can our farmers and harvest helpers there send their children to schools that deserve the name. We also source parts of our finely cut lemongrass tea from our partner farm in Malawi in excellent Tesana quality.

Conclusion – the power of nature for your well-being

Moringa oleifera is far more than just an ordinary “superfood” – it is a true gift from nature! With its impressive variety of valuable vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, it not only offers natural support for your well-being but also a sustainable alternative to artificial foods. Whether as powder in smoothies, meals, or capsules, or as leaf cut in tea infusions – Moringa offers numerous possibilities for you and always enriches you with an exceptionally high content of valuable nutrients. It is a perfect example of how the God-given creation of nature can support us in a gentle, effective way – for a healthier and more balanced life.
