At Tesana, we stand for a sustainable, ecological, and responsible way of doing business - and that shows in every step of our production cycle.
From the natural cultivation of our plants, where we exclusively use natural plant protection products and no mineral fertilizers, to climate-neutral shipping for all your orders - we remain true to our values of sustainability and tradition in all our steps. Because it is our highest principle to conserve the resources of our God-given planet and thus contribute to the recovery of our Earth.
We naturally pursue this principle with our packaging, where we are guided by the so-called ZERO-Waste principle. But what exactly is the ZERO-Waste principle? And how do we manage to support environmentally friendly practices with our packaging - both for our plant products and our salve? You can find out in this article.

What is the ZERO-Waste principle?
ZERO Waste literally means “zero waste” or “zero extravagance”. It refers to a philosophy or way of life that aims to produce as little - or ideally no - waste as possible. The central idea behind it is to conserve the environment's resources by keeping the entire life cycle of a product in mind - just as we do with our packaging.
The ZERO-Waste principle includes the following points:
- Avoid: First and foremost, avoid waste that is not necessary. This means consciously questioning consumption and choosing durable, sustainable products - to prevent unnecessary waste from being created in the first place.
- Reduce: Sometimes, however, waste cannot be completely avoided. Then it's about reducing it as much as possible. This means: Less packaging, fewer disposable products, and fewer unnecessary purchases. Conscious and economical use of resources is crucial here to reduce one's own amount of waste.
- Reuse: This involves using the things you already have for as long as possible and, if necessary, repairing them instead of throwing them away. Because in today's "throwaway society," we often tend to dispose of things quickly, even though they are still usable - either for ourselves or for others.
- Recycle: The last, but no less important point in the ZERO-Waste principle is recycling. Because what cannot be avoided, reduced, or reused should at least be recyclable - meaning it can be reprocessed into new products. Recycling conserves natural resources and ensures that less unnecessary waste ends up in nature or landfills.
Artemisia annua, Moringa and Co.: These are the packagings we use for our plant products
To apply the ZERO-Waste principle to the bags of our plant products, we ensure that they are either fully recyclable or incinerable without leaving residues.

This means they…
- … consist exclusively of renewable raw materials. It is important to us not to unnecessarily strain the limited resources of our planet. That's why we use bags made of brown kraft paper and an inner film whose material is obtained from renewable sugarcane instead of petroleum. This also allows us to demonstrably reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
- … are free of environmentally harmful aluminum and PVC, so that their incineration takes place without releasing toxic fumes and gases. This ensures that our packaging has no negative impact on the environment - even if it has to be incinerated at the end of its life cycle.
- … are reusable. Once you have used up our plant products, you can reuse the bags for other purposes as often as you like - whether for storing food, DIY projects, or small items. Afterwards, you can confidently return them to the recycling loop to reuse the materials and thus reduce the need for new raw materials.
In addition, the bags provide reliable protection against light, air, and sun exposure thanks to the kraft paper, the KPET material with its strong barrier properties, the secure sealing, and the pressure seal.
The packaging of our Artemisia annua Salve
To incorporate the ZERO-Waste principle into our salve, we use jars made of 100% pure brown glass.

These jars have the following advantages:
- Purity of the salve: Glass is inert - meaning it does not react with the ingredients of cosmetic products, as is the case with many plastic, synthetic, and metal packagings. This prevents foreign chemicals from entering the salve and impairing its effectiveness.
- Environmental friendliness: After you have used up our Artemisia annua salve, you can wash out the glass jar and reuse it for various purposes. Alternatively, you can safely dispose of the glass in a glass recycling container, where it will then be fully recycled.
- Protection from light: Brown glass blocks UV rays and thus protects the ingredients of the salve from degradation by strong light exposure - this is particularly important for the natural ingredients of our salve, which are highly light-sensitive. Thanks to the brown glass, the effectiveness of our salve is maintained for a longer period.
- Extended shelf life: Since we use 100% natural ingredients for our salve, it is free of any preservatives. However, by protecting against UV rays through the use of brown glass, the ingredients remain durable for longer - according to our laboratory-tested evaluations, this is at least 30 months. You can therefore safely store and use the salve for a longer period.
Conclusion
So you see: The principles of tradition and sustainability accompany us in every step of our production. Because in all decisions we make in our company, our commitment to a sustainable and green future is reflected. It is our sincere concern to value nature's creation and to consider our planet as our home - and to treat it in such a way that it can continue to exist for a long time.
